There are some photographers who inspire me, some who have guided me, helped me out and some who encourage me (and some do several of these). I would just like to give them credit and would recommend them for various different types of photography.

Chris McLennan

New Zealand photographer Chris McLennan has won multiple international awards, including National Geographic ones. I want to do what he does. Sigh… The stunning nature photography is, to me, simply amazing. I would love to attend one of his workshops some day – make it a learning holiday (and visit family out there too). Time to start saving up, but if I get the money, I think I’d rather (must in fact) buy new equipment first! though

Frenske Otzen

Friend, encourager, helper. Frenske has allowed me to tag along to some shoots, where I picked up some great advice and tips. She has also been great in letting me use some of her equipment at times. She takes beautiful maternity and baby photos, weddings, portraits…

Werner Stadler

I believe his main job is being a photo-journalist with travelling deeper into Africa being a requirement at times, but I just love Werner’s beautiful family photographs and portraits, especially the soft colouring he achieves.

Jan Theron

Jan does weddings, model shoots, corporate functions, commercial and boudoir shoots. Based in Cape Town but will travel anywhere it seems if you want him to!

Malcolm Dare

Malcolm used to be a neighbour of mine yet I never knew he was a photographer, let alone such a great one, until after I’d moved away from there. He has studios in the Bo-Kaap (Pixel Foundry) and does big commercial shoots. He graciously allowed me to come along on one shoot in the CTICC to observe – something I really appreciated as this level of photography is just something else altogether. The equipment requires a small truck and the effort that goes into taking a photo for a printed commercial is way more than I thought. The gazillion-megapixel camera used (one of only so many worldwide) doesn’t even look like a camera! He also allowed me to to observe the work in his studio and showed me his editing process – sjoe but there are lots of layers and editing steps involved…

Brain Johnson

My art teacher from school – he’s the one who got me interested in photography way back then. We took photographs on film back then and learnt how to do our own developing. He’s retired now but still gives courses in photography at Bergvliet High school in Cape Town.
